An 11-year-old boy in South Carolina was hit and killed by a car, but his family knows that in the process, he saved the life of his little sister.

“He knew to look out for her,” Elizabeth McCrorey said of her son, La’Darious Wylie, and his little sister, Sha’Vonta.

Sha’Vonta told police that she was waiting at the bus stop with her big brother when a car came barreling toward them both. La’Darious shoved her out of the way of the oncoming car, and the car was gone before she could get back up.

The heroic boy died from his injuries the following day at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, and the family is now working with the community to get a park renamed in his honor.
