College officials are investigating a video which shows a black female student confront a white male student with locks on the campus of San Francisco State University.

According to a witness account published in the Golden Gate Xpress, Cory Goldstein called the black student Bonita Tindle a “b***h” when she tried to pass him a flyer.

Tindle then confronted Goldstein on why he chose to wear his hair that way.

“You’re saying I can’t have a hairstyle because of your culture? Why?” Goldstein replied.

“Because it’s my culture. Do you know what locks mean?” Tindle fired back.

The exchange reportedly picks up right after Goldstein allegedly called Tindle the expletive.

Goldstein later pleads with Tindle:

You know what, girl, you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot wear and he tries. Yo, girl, stop touching me now I don’t need your disrespect.

Near the end of the video, a woman asks why someone is filming, with the cameraperson replying, “For everyone’s safety.”

On Tuesday, the university released a statement about the video, saying:

We are aware of the video made of an incident which occurred on campus yesterday afternoon. University police were called to the scene of the incident when it occurred. The two individuals involved in the incident are not San Francisco State University employees. Further, no criminal charges have been pressed at this time to the University’s knowledge.

San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others. We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures.
