Denzel Washington is bringing August Wilson’s “Fences” to the big screen.

According to an announcement made by Paramount Pictures, Washington will direct the movie adaptation of the Broadway revival, and he will also star alongside Viola Davis, who won a Tony for her role in “Fences.”

“This important and beloved play has been a passion of Denzel’s for many years and it is with great excitement that we embark together to bring his dream project to the big screen,” Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in a statement.

The story follows the life of a baseball player who has fallen from his promising career to a job as a garbage collector.

The film is set to begin shooting later this month.
