George Franklin Henry, a Tuskegee Airman who later became a New York City firefighter, has died at age 95.
George Franklin Henry, a Tuskegee Airman who later became a New York City firefighter, has died at age 95.
According to the NY Daily News, Henry was a staff sergeant during WWII in charge of 20 technicians who worked on the planes that the first African-American pilots flew.
Henry earned the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1945. After that, he got married his wife, Mazie, and graduated from the Harlem Hospital School of Nursing. Henry then became a firefighter and joined the FDNY until he retired in 1963.
The services for Henry will be held at 10 a.m. Nov.13, at Lawrence H. Woodward Funeral Home on Troy Ave. in Brooklyn.
