Alexis Jones-Rhodes, the Clark Atlanta University student who on Monday went missing on her way to graduation, has been found in Illinois.

According to DeKalb County police spokesman Capt. S.R. Fore, no criminal activity was involved in her disappearance.

Jones-Rhodes left her family’s home on Monday wearing her cap and gown, but her family became worried when they attended graduation and did not see her walking across the stage.

The school said that there was no record of the student signing in for commencement exercises. Moreover, while she was, in fact, enrolled in school for the spring semester, she was not actually eligible to graduate and so would not have been walking across the stage even if she had been there.

“Both her mother and father would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support, especially the police and the media for their swift response,” an emailed statement released by the family said. “We are happy she is safe.”

No further information was immediately available, and the family was not reachable for direct comment beyond the statement that they emailed, which was issued through the same marketing agency that had helped the family spread the news of the initial disappearance.
