It’s been nearly two years since Eric Garner died as the result of a police chokehold during an arrest in New York City.

A grand jury decided not to indict the officers involved in his death, and his family reached a settlement of $5.9 million dollars in a wrongful death suit.

Although a federal grand jury has started to hear evidence in Eric Garner’s case, his eldest daughter, Erica Garner, says she has no hope for justice.

“I lost hope a long time ago,” she says.

In the wake of her father’s death, Garner has become an activist, most recently sharing a powerful video endorsement of Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign for President.

She sat with theGrio‘s Natasha Alford to talk about her father’s case, her gripes with NYPD and why Black Lives Matter supporters need to rally in Election 2016.

“They can’t win without our vote,” she says.
