A fourth grade teacher at Oyster Adams Bilingual School in Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty to second-degree child sex abuse on Friday.

Giovanni Pena, 31, had worked at the school since 2008 and worked with the track and field team as well as the student government. During the 2010-2011 school year, he also won the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award.

According to the charging documents, Pena allegedly sent pictures of his private parts to a 10-year-old victim and then requested that the boy send him nude pictures in exchange. The boy did not send any pictures.

Pena also admitted to having touched the boy’s genitals over his pants on more than one occasion inside a classroom.

He is being held on bond until his sentencing on September 4.

Below is footage from Pena’s hearing earlier in the month.
