R&B singer Mary J. Blige and her husband face a $2.2 million dollar lawsuit stemming from a defaulted loan from Signature Bank, according to Reuters.
The suit says that Blige and her husband, Martin Isaacs, took out the loan in October 2011 and defaulted in July 2012. The bank is seeking the original amount of the loan and $58,000 in interest.
This past summer Blige acknowledged her financial shortcomings.
“The lives of young women are at stake,” the singer told Reuters when asked about the allegations this past June. “I feel what they feel. I don’t want them to suffer. I promised them something and I’m gonna deliver. Period.”
Earlier this year Blige’s charity, the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, was hit with two lawsuits over unpaid bills.
In one of the separate lawsuits 30 artists that performed at a May 2011 benefit for FFAWN say each one of their checks bounced. In the other suit TD Bank sued over a defaulted loan that was supposed to be paid at the end of 2011.
