Legendary actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood’s ’empty chair’ stunt at the 2012 Republican convention in Tampa will likely go down in history as the one of the most bizarre and memorable moments of the last presidential election cycle.
Eastwood infamously gave a rambling, unscripted endorsement of candidate Mitt Romney while pretending to interact with a foul-mouthed, imaginary President Barack Obama ‘seated’ in an empty chair next to his podium.
But whatever happened to the seminal object that spawned a myriad of parodies?
It apparently resides in the office of the current RNC chairman, Reince Priebus.
According to CNN, Priebus is hanging onto the ’empty chair’ as humorous memento of the GOP’s ultimately losing efforts.
CNN reports that: “It’s the first thing he points out to a reporter before sitting down behind his desk to discuss how his party must dramatically rethink its strategy and message in hopes of recovering from the presidential drubbing of 2012.”
