Transgender woman killed in Philly attack

Police are investigating the brutal attack and murder of a transgender woman in Philadelphia.

Police are investigating the brutal attack and murder of a transgender woman in Philadelphia after she was beaten and then shot to death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to NBC Philadelphia, police say 22-year-old Kiesha Jenkins had just been dropped off and was approached by at least five men as she got out of the vehicle. The men beat her, and one man pulled out a gun and fired two shots, which struck her in the back. The men fled, and Jenkins was taken to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

“Right now we don’t have any motive,” Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark said, reports NBC Philadelphia. “We don’t know if it’s potentially a hate crime or if it was a robbery. We really don’t know. It’s too early in the investigation to tell.”

Police are looking for surveillance footage as well as for the driver. They are also talking with Jenkins’ family as they try to determine the reason she was killed.
